The SEQ Level 2 in Teaching Swimming qualification sets a new standard for excellence in swimming teacher training. This streamlined qualification equips you with all the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver safe, fun, and inclusive swimming lessons from day one once qualified. There is no need to complete the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) first however this is still available if you feel it would benefit your development.
This qualification has been officially endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as meeting the professional standard for the role of a Swimming Teacher. Successful completion provides 10 CIMSPA CPD points, ensuring your training meets the highest industry standards.
You’ll learn through 50 hours of training, 38 of which are guided by expert educators to offer structured, supportive and empowering development, through real-time feedback, progressive steps, and a gradual shift to independence for real-world teaching success.
Your learning will blend essential theory with practical teaching in live lessons that are supported by licensed Swim England educators and new assessment technology, helping you become the best possible teacher you can be.
During the course, your tutor will be covering the following units:
- Unit 1: How to deliver swimming lessons within a safe environment
- Unit 2: Understand the knowledge required for teaching swimming
- Unit 3: The role of a Swimming Teacher
- Unit 4: Plan swimming lessons
- Unit 5: Deliver & evaluate swimming lessons

How is this course assessed:
You will be set tasks throughout the course by your tutors. There will also be an online multiple-choice test and you will deliver a minimum of six 30 minute swimming lessons.
We have a number of options to support you in completing the practical (teaching) requirements of the course:
– You can come to one of our prearranged practical sessions in the East Midlands.
– You can attend bespoke practical sessions at one of our partner swimming pools in the East Midlands.*
– You can record your teaching at a swimming pool or swim school local to you. Please email to ask for the guidance on this.
– We may be able attend a swimming pool or swim school local to you and assess you in your own teaching environment.*
*Please note there is an additional cost associated with this method of assessment.
Entry requirements:
Learners must be 16 years of age or older on the course start date.
Qualification registration period:
You have 12 months from the start date of your course to complete this qualification.
